About Us
Tommy Topsoil is the UKs leading supplier of live worms and worm-derived bait products. Our success goes back almost forty years, when wormfarming was unknown in the UK. Founder of the family business, Charlie Denham, was the only specialist worm farmer in the early 1970s, breeding worms to supply fishing tackle shops in the North of England.
Charles’ son, Andrew, and daugter, Tricilla, now control the business concentrating on mail order bait supplies from their extensive worm breeding facility.
Recycling with worms has been heavily promited by Tommy Topsoil and the residual worm castings that are a by-product of any commercial worm farm are now sold to gardeners as compost and soil amendments. The success of the castings market has worm that worm production costs are now shared between our two major products: meaning stable prices for worms to our angling customers in recent times.
Dendros or Dendrobaenas
We sell three types of worm, eisenia hortensis is our best-selling worm, it grows to a good size, is very tough, travels well, and can be stored for up to four weeks without feeding or refigeration if kept in a cool area.
Farm bred worms of this species have become known by the name dendrobaena, so to avoid confusion, we call our worms dendros or dendrobaens to the angling fraternity. In America, our worms are called European Nightcrawlers.

Redworms
Redworms have become a favourite hook worm for match anglers and hobby fishermen alike, and are much smaller than dendros. Their colour is excellent and the wriggle well, but don’t have as long a shelf life.

Lobworms
Lobworms are large and tough, often used as a worm for salmon and sea trout, or as a chopping worm for match anglers. Our lobworms are toughened before despatch to our customers. Shelf life can be extended if kept in a ventilated tub with damp paper or river moss. Lob worms must be stored very cool if they are to be kept for long periods.
